2009 Reunion Pics Once again, the 6th Weather Squadron Alumni Association met in Oklahoma City. OK, home of Tinker AFB which was the home of the 6th Weather Squadron (Mobile). The former Holiday Inn is now the Wyndham Garden Hotel and hosted our Reunion in a completely renovated hotel both exterior and interior. A new Hospitality Room in the center of the atrium served as the meeting hub for the many members who attended this years reunion. A very special treat this year was a completely renovated WWII era SCM-1 Mobile Weather Van which actually carried the 2060th Weather Squadron markings. This was all made possible by the hard work, attention to detail and dedication of Fred LaPerriere of Colorado. It was trailer'd to OKC and set up in the front lot of the Wyndham Garden Hotel. A local TV station reported on the display on the evening news. Fred also amassed an interesting collection of old weather instruments that were once utilized by weather observers and forecasters. The van looks just like new and is restored to original specs thanks to the SCM-1 technical manual provided by Mark Neitenbach. Wednesday's Early bird arrival provided the time to unload and set up the van and provided a number of people with the get acquainted time. The schedule was pretty much like that of two years ago with Thursday's Tinker AFB tour with a visit to the plane display, the BX and restaurants, the South-40 area and the Friday visit and tour of the National Severe Storms Laboratory in Norman. We stopped for a great lunch at the Western Sizzler and then proceeded to KWTV News 9 broadcast station where we were given a tour of the station and weather desk. Some visited the canal, Bricktown, the river ride and other points of interest on their own. Saturday's agenda included the Ad Hoc Committee Meeting, the General Membership Meeting and the Reunion Banquet where a delicious hot buffet dinner was served followed by drawings for the cross stitch 6th Weather emblem and the member signed homemade quilt furnished by Shirley Eldringhoff . Award presentations were made by our Chairman Chuck Miller. Entertainment was also provided with music and the voice and guitar of Jerome Thomas. Sunday morning , groups gathered together for breakfast before departing for different points of the compass and saying their goodbyes until the reunion in 2011. Thank you Chuck Miller and the reunion committee for your dedication and another job well done. See you all in 2011, and until then stay safe and be healthy. |
