2018 Air Weather Association Reunion
August 1 - 5, 2018 Colorado Springs, CO
We said the 2016 6th Weather Squadron Alumni Association
was the last reunion for our organization but we would piggy-back onto the Air
Weather Association Reunion in the future. 2018 rolled around and with all good
intentions, there would have been seven 6th Weather members attending, but due
to unforeseen health and other circumstances the number dwindled to three "mobers":
Neil Prete, Larry Beaver and myself Gerry Guay.
The AWA members were very friendly and talkative, much
like our own reunions and it was easy to make new friends and share stories of
Air Weather Service. Fred LaPerriere had the old weather van set up just
outside and was explaining his many artifacts in his collection of old weather
instruments and his restoration of the van.
I was on the bus tour on Friday, to the amazing Air Force
Academy and beautiful Garden of the Gods. I will share those pictures on the
reunion pics pages. On Saturday I drove 16 of the 19 miles up the road to Pike's
Peak at 14,115 feet. Because of construction of a new summit house, shuttles
were provided for the last 3 miles to the summit. I have a few pics from there
also. The pictures of the Friday night BBQ and the Banquet were taken by Tony
Baltz and forwarded to me by Jim DeCarufel, the AWA's Webmaster. Thanks Tony and
Jim.
Sunday morning was the farewell breakfast with some
friends, then the drive back to Denver to catch my Southwest flight back to Salt
Lake City. It was a good weekend and reunion.
